SAVE and PROTECT endangered FLORIDA’s barrier islands from hazardous development !

Barrier islands and the ecosystem they support are already profoundly affected by accelerated increase of sea level, hurricanes, storm surge and wave heights during Hurricanes increasing the risk of flooding. Hurricane Matthew in 2016 had caused widespread flooding along the eastern coast of Florida. The worst surge damage was centralized around the barrier islands near Saint Augustine. Yet, K.B. Home developer is building 200 homes called Las Casitas located at 2 Las Casitas Blvd. Palm Coast near Washington Oaks. The area was flooded during Hurricane Matthew, they are allowed to build in an area prone to heavy flooding. KB Home builder clear cut the place, old trees being destroyed. Two ponds have been drained leaving dead turtles all around. These 2 ponds were very important, protecting the existing homes from flooding. Why are KB home developers allowed to build a very dense development in a flooded area? Where is the flood water going to go since the ponds were destroyed? Is KB Home builder able to guarantee that the dense development of 200 houses will be protected from flooding? How about the possibility of sinkholes?  Before being allowed to build, these issues should be evaluated by the governor Ron DeSantis, by FEMA, by Florida department of environmental protection! Hopefully !
