New York Times, Stop Demonizing Plan B!

An unplanned pregnancy can shatter someone's world. So why did the New York Times commission an article that bashes emergency contraception? Specifically, a recent NYT article by Donna J. Harrison recommends that CVS drug stores stop selling Plan B One-Step and Ella. Both are emergency contraceptions designed to prevent an unplanned pregnancy when used shortly after sex.

And both have been vetted for safety by the New York Times. Any pregnancy comes with higher risks than taking these drugs. Harrison, the Executive Director of the Association of Pro-Life Obstetricians and Gynecologists, is clearly acting out a political agenda by suggesting that emergency contraception is bad for anyone's health.

Her allegations against emergency contraception contradict the known science. Tell the New York Times not to use its pages to discourage responsible behavior on the part of young women!

Dear New York Times Company:

We the undersigned understand the need to fairly represent all points of view. But the article you recently published about Plan B and Ella contradicts known fact--fact which you yourselves have published in other issues of your paper.

We refer specifically to the article titled "Dangers of Emergency Contraceptives by Donna B. Harrison. Harrison is not telling the truth about Plan B or Ella, both of which are safer to undergo than a pregnancy--even for the healthiest of women. We believe you have given space in your paper to someone whose motives are not only partisan, but contrary to the best interests of women everywhere.

Please refrain from demonizing emergency contraception.
