Boulder Prairie Dogs Raptor Bait?

A $50 million dollar development is in the works for the 9 acre North Boulder "Armory" property. This property has also been the site of a colony of roughly 50 healthy prairie dogs - the oldest colony in Boulder.

A 'kill permit' has been filed with the City of Boulder through the City of Boulder's Urban Wildlife Department - Val Matheson. Val has stated in an article in early June that there are currently 16 acres available in Boulder to receive these prairie dogs, yet there is no plan to move them there. The developer, Bruce Dierking has even offered to pay for relocation and a $5,000 reward for anyone who can find a place to relocate the prairie dogs to. If nothing is found by the fall they will be "humanely caught" and fed to raptors.

Please call Val Matheson 303-441-3004 mathesonv@bouldercolorado.gov - at the City of Boulder Urban Wildlife Department and urge her to move this colony of 50 prairie dogs from the Boulder Armory site to some of the 16 acres available in Boulder this year as a receiving site for prairie dogs. The city of Boulder favors ranchers for these lands so they are resistant to moving this colony of prairie dogs to the space.
