We all have to launder our clothes and clean the toilet. So it's pretty disturbing to learn that so many household cleaners have carcinogens, like formaldehyde and chloroform. Some cleaners can damage your lungs and others trigger asthma attacks. Currently, there is almost no oversight of household products and the chemicals that lurk within them, and manufacturers are not required even to disclose the ingredients in their products.
There is some good news, though. The Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA) currently moving through Congress would give the Environmental Protection Agency authority to test common household products for toxicity. Seems like kind of a no brainer. Please join me in asking Congress to pass the Toxic Substances Control act.

I was really shocked to learn just how toxic some household cleaners are. Yes, we've all gotten a head full of fumes from time to time, but now I discover that there are actual carginogens in the extremely common products available on the shelves of my local market. And it appears that the makers of these products have no real accountability. The ingredients in their soaps and sprays are not disclosed. There's no way of really knowing if a product will trigger an asthma attack or give us cancer. Please pass the Toxic Substances Control act.
