There are guards in Geiger Correctional Center who are refusing to wear masks when in the common areas with other guards and inmates, even on a floor that is now in quarantine due to an outbreak of Covid 19 at Geiger. There are reports of this being a pattern of behavior for guards at Geiger for the last few months, at least. This endangers their fellow guards, all inmates they come in contact with and, after every shift, these guards come back out into the larger Spokane community. Staff at Geiger Correctional Center were given training months ago, by Spokane Regional Health District, on how to comply with state and local orders; they are fully aware of the rules they are breaking and the danger they put us all in. Join us in demanding that Jail Director Michael Sparber enforce the existing rule that all corrections officers at Geiger Corrections Center wear masks at all times when they are in common areas, and to provide them with updated training on Covid 19 facts and safety precautions. In addition, if any guards are unwilling to comply, they should be transferred to a job which does not require being in contact with other people.
