Don't Let the Farm Bill Allow Animal Cruelty Through the King Amendment!

  • av: SUE LEE
  • mottagare: Local Senate and House of Representatives

Despite the efforts of the Senate, the House of Representatives want to put an amendment on the House Farm Bill known as the King Amendment.  Your help is needed so that this provision is excluded from the final bill when signed and approved. If the Amendment is included in the final House Bill, it will allow for animal cruelty and endangerment!

What this dangerous King Amendment does is nullify all efforts by state laws to protect not only farm animals but puppy mills.  According to the ASPCA, the King Amendment would prevent the power of state to pass laws to protect the health and welfare of animals.  Cruelty laws would be non-existent as well as laws against gestation crates, battery cages, along with bans on horse slaughter and eating dogs and cats for food.

The animals would not have protection if the amend farm bill from the House includes this radical provision.  Please sign the petition and share with everyone to support Congress in stripping this devastating provision from the Final Farm Bill.

Write to your local U.S. Senators and U.S. House of Representatives, urging that this provision is left out of the Farm Bill.  Local laws protecting abused animals and cruelty need to be enforced without this provision that endorses just the opposite.

As supporters of the Humane Society and the ASPCA, I ask that you please strike the King Amendment off of the final House Farm Bill and allow local laws to protect these animals.  This is a dangerous provision that is an unprecedented assault on the historic power of states to pass laws that protect the health and welfare of animals.

The Farm Bill would nullify local laws that protects animals, preventing the state laws from enforcing their own laws regarding the production of "agricultural products"--a term so broad that it could include not only farm animals but also dogs and cats.

Please tell Agriculture Committee leaders to strike this dangerous provision from the final Farm Bill. The ability of states to pass their own laws for animals must be protected.
