My cat Micky urgently needs heart surgery. For months, I saved as much as I could to cover his treatment, and I kept part of those savings in cryptocurrency. Just days before I was supposed to pay the veterinary costs, I fell victim to a phishing scam and my wallet was drained. The money I had saved for Micky disappeared within minutes.
This experience showed me how difficult it can be for victims of cryptocurrency theft to get help. Once stolen funds are transferred between wallets and exchanges, victims often have very little time to report what happened, and there is no simple process for getting exchanges to investigate or freeze suspicious funds.
I am asking cryptocurrency exchanges and wallet providers to introduce faster reporting systems for stolen funds, stronger warnings against phishing attacks, and dedicated support teams that can work with victims and other platforms when stolen cryptocurrency is traced.
Better cooperation and faster action could help prevent other people from losing money meant for emergencies, medical treatment, or their families.
