The Village of Kiryas Joel in Monroe NY is seeking to create a new Town of North Monroe. It would eliminate the annexations before the Supreme Court. It must go before the Orange County Legislature for approval. The Legislative chair has asked anyone who objects to sign a petition and submit to the County for review. We the undersigned, petition the Legislature to vote NO! to create KJ's request for the Town of North Monroe until the 164- acre and 507-acre annexations are decided by the NYS Supreme Court.
We believe the courts must decide before any consideration is given to creating a new town. There is good reason why no new town has been created in NYS in over 50 years. Only after full judicial review, a complete SEQR study and an agreement with the MW/KJ school district to redraw school lines should the Legislature consider discussing North Monroe for a vote.
