Demand that NICE and the NHS licences NDT. Natural Desicated Thyroid.

At present it is extremely difficult for people like me and many others to get NDT from the NHS. There is no rational explanation for NDT not to be licensed even NICE can't come up with anything solid against it apart from, as it's made from pig or cow thyroid glands the strength of the finished product may vary as it might be stronger in one animal than another. NDT was the original medication used for Hypothyroidism and used in the NHS until 1976. NICE actually admits in an article they produced that many patients benefit from being put onto NDT. There are a lot of people like me who can't tolerate Levothyroxin which is the only drug available, at present for the treatment of Hypothyroidism, Under Active Thyroid which is a very common complaint which affects more women than men. There are quite a number of different formulations of Levothyroxin and different brands, but this is just a variation of the same basic drug. People like myself who cannot tolerate any of these are being left to suffer in many cases with no suitable medication because NDT isn't licensed and it's therefore up to the Endocrinologist and individual Trusts as to whether we can have NDT or not. Many people are left to fend for themselves and having to turn to the internet and ordering NDT from dubious sources with all the risks associated with that just to try and stay alive. Or if they can afford it they have to try and find a private GP to prescribe it. The cost of buying it and paying for a Private Doctor is well over £100 and therefore out of range of a lot of people's affordability. It's not the cost of NDT it's the outrageous cost of a Private GP Consultation. THIS MUST STOP, PEOPLE ARE SUFFERING AND RISK DYING BECAUSE OF THIS NEGLIGENCE WHICH IS WHAT THIS AMOUNTS TOO.
