NZ Independent Police Conduct Authority needs to be independent.

Complaints about police are more often than not fed back to the police to investigate their own. The IPCA will not help the non sworn in most instances. The IPCA itself is independent, however the workers themselves are bias, and are mainly ex police themselves, who work against the complainer.
New Zealanders have no protection against police. Whistle blowers within he police force have no protection.
The new transparency unit will not help citizens outside the police force. Police presently have little feedback, and judgement can be made on past mistakes.
It's extremely disheartening when serious cases arise. Police need some independent reviews to provide any type of justice or protection to all New Zealand citizens. As it stands, .the IPCA may as well be a brick in the wall. Police can get away with crimes that are very hurtful, but not considered serious by the IPCA.
