The American people are tired of a dysfunctional Congress; this petition has been created because of corporate and lobbyist funding of congressional elections, resulting in the inability of Congress to remain impartial and fully implement the will of the people. We fully believe that implementing term limits on Congress will force a change in congressional procedures, resulting in a more effective Congress.
This petition has been created in support of placing a referendum question on this upcoming presidential election ballot to inspire a change in the Constitution: placing limits on congressional terms.
This will limit the power of Wall Street, the NRA, and other special interest groups from influencing congressional decisions. Term limits will allow Congress to focus on the true public interest instead of reelection.
Currently, Congress can serve an unlimited number of terms. We propose a two-term limit for senators (total of 12 years max) and a two-term limit for the house (four years max). These term limits are aligned with the current constitutional limits placed on the President.
The American people think Congress would not take this action on their own, resulting in the need for the American people to establish a referendum question.
