Stop Toronto’s Proposed Rat Cull

Toronto is proposing a rat cull using poison bait at construction sites, Metrolinx, and sewers, and suffocating rats in their natural habitat in parks.

Culls do not work.  The bait attracts all sorts of wildlife and every single rat killed leaves room for more to move in.  The bait kills all sorts of non target animals too.

Toronto is developing a Rat Response plan.  Unfortunately this includes rodenticides, sewer baiting, mandates poison at construction site, does not ban glue traps, and uses lethal methods like poisons, killer snap traps, electrocution traps, head bashing "Goodnature" traps, and suffocating entire families of rats in their tunnels using carbon monoxide and dry ice (carbon dioxide).  Please email, phone, web conference, or speak in person to defend rats before Wednesday.  Here is the link.  https://secure.toronto.ca/council/agenda-item.do?item=2025.EC22.5

Please ask the City of Toronto to develop a no kill program instead. Closing up holes with one way doors, cleaning up attractants, using bear proof bins, and educating people about rat coexistence is a much more effective approach.
