The epidemic of dead horses is much worse than in previous years. Ann Keating, founder of the Welsh Ponies Rescue and Rehoming Project (WPRRP) believes numbers are higher this year because of poor market sales and the recent meat scandal.
Microchipping ponies and horses before they can be sold is Welsh law, but many are sold illegally due to the high cost of microchipping. This makes it impossible to trace the dead animals to their negligent owners.
