Keep U.S. Horse Slaughter Illegal!

In 2012, Congress lifted a ban on USDA horse slaughterhouse inspections that had been in place since 2006. Since then, several companies have asked for inspections that would allow them to slaughter horses for meat that could be sold for human consumption overseas. Plans for inspections in Rockville, Missouri and Roswell, New Mexico have been put on hold, and without new action from Congress, the USDA will soon allow horse inspections to proceed

Horse meat can't be sold in the U.S. for human consumption, but mix-ups can happen. In light of the recent European meat contamination scandal, Congress should consider reinstating the ban on horse slaughterhouse inspections. Please sign the petition to keep horse slaughter illegal in the U.S.!

To: U.S. Congress

We, the undersigned, are writing in hopes of reinstating the ban on horse slaughter in the U.S. As you know, in 2012, Congress lifted a ban on USDA horse slaughterhouse inspections that had been in place since 2006.

We understand that horse meat can't be sold in the U.S. for human consumption, but mix-ups can happen. In light of the recent European meat contamination scandal, we believe it would be wise to reinstate the ban on horse slaughter in the U.S. Thank you for taking the time to read and consider our petition.
