Urge the UK Government to Cooperate with the European Union in Lowering Emission Targets

It's been revealed British ministers tried to block European Union moves to clean up and improve air quality, according to a report in The Guardian.

It's alleged the Department of the Environment advised MPs to vote against any tighter control of car emissions.

It follows the admission that the Department for Transport had ignored significant evidence of the fraudulent practices being employed by the car industry.

EU legislation sets mandatory emission reduction targets for new cars. This legislation is an important element of the EU's strategy to reduce CO2 emissions from passenger cars.

It's in the interests of the UK public for the government to support the reduction of emissions. "About 29,000 deaths in the UK are hastened by inhalation of minute particles of oily, unburnt soot emitted by all petrol engines and an estimated 23,500 by the invisible but toxic gas nitrogen dioxide (NO2) discharged by diesel engines," states the report.

The people of the UK and the EU deserve better. Will you join me in urging the UK Government to cooperate with the EU in lowering emission targets. It will save lives!
