U.S. Banks: Don't Deny Mortgages to Women on Maternity Leave!

  • av: Chris Wolverton

When families grow, many plan to move into larger homes to accomodate the new baby. So why are some of the largest banks in the U.S. denying mortgages to women on maternity leave?

Several banks, including Bank of America, PNC Mortgage and Mountain America Credit Union are turning couples away because one partner is on maternity leave and not currently receiving income. Couples are being rejected even if the mother has a regular income and will return to work after her leave.

This sexist practice is in violation of the Fair Housing Act and needs to be taken seriously. Please sign the petition to urge the Department of Housing and Urban Development to stop banks from denying mortgages to women on maternity leave!

We, the undersigned, are concernet that several banks, including Bank of America, PNC Mortgage and Mountain America Credit Union, are denying couples mortgages because one partner is on maternity leave and not currently receiving income. We understand that couples are being rejected even if the mother has a regular income and will return to work after her leave.

This sexist practice is in violation of the Fair Housing Act and needs to be taken seriously. Couples should not be denied mortgages during the time they most need to purchase a new home. We respectfully urge you to stop banks from denying mortgages to women on maternity leave. Thank you for taking the time to read and consider our petition.
