Support A Fair Living Wage For The Workers of Cole Harbour Place in Halifax, Nova Scotia

  • av: John Hanrahan
  • mottagare: Nova Scotia Premier Darrell Dexter, Halifax Mayor Peter J. Kelly and CBI Chairman Don Kyte

The workers of Local 22 of the Nova Scotia Union of Public and Private Employees (NSUPE) have been on strike since May 10th. The majority of the striking workers earn only $10.37 an hour. Many of the workers earn so little that they are at or below the low income cut off, more commonly known as the poverty line.

Cole Harbour Place is a recreational facility owned by The Halifax Regional Municipality. The City has representation on the board that employs these workers. The employer is using strike-breakers to replace the workers who are on the picket line. The workers are asking for only a couple of dollars an hour over four years. They are literally striking against poverty.

Sign this petition to inform Premier Darrell Dexter, Mayor Peter Kelly and CBI Chairman Don Kyte that you support a fair living wage for the workers of Cole Harbour Place and that you are against the use of strike-breakers to force workers to accept poverty line wages.
