Hi all! I was at the post office today and noticed they have a stamp for breast cancer and a portion of the cost goes to research, so I asked the man behind the counter how I could go about getting a stamp made for childhood cancer. Everyone in line turned and a lady asked why childhood cancer, well I just happened to be wearing my St. Baldrick's shirt so I told them about my sweet Macie Lynn and I little about St. Baldrick's, CureSearch, Mascot Miracles Foundation and PCMC. Everyone said they would LOVE to buy a stamp to support our children.
You see, 3 years ago my sweet 7 year old daughter was diagnosed with Osteosarcoma (bone cancer) in her left distal femur. She immediately underwent a biopsy and implatation of a portacath in her chest. She began intensive chemotherapy of Methotrexate, Doxorubicin and Cisplatin. These chemotherapies are made for adults, there weren't any available for children with her type of cancer. She underwent rotationplasty (rare amputation procedure where her foot is turned backwards). She fought with all her might and completed her last chemotherapy the end of October 2013. She went home and looked forward to returning to school with her new prosthetic leg and growing her hair back. Just 2 1/2 weeks after ringing the celebration bell for completing treatment, she went into heart failure and passed away 2 days later from the damage the chemotherapy Doxorubicin did to her heart. She had just turned 8 on September 28, 2013 and died on November 16, 2013.
This is unacceptable. We need funding and recognition of our babies dying from the treatment not just the cancer.
I'm wondering how many of you would be willing to support our babies. Please sign the petition to show the United States postal service how many of us would purchase and use this stamp to bring awareness and raise funds!
