The soccer field at the Nike Site in Shelton CT needs your help. What once was a great venue for a soccer match has now become a hazardous one. There are many problems which need our attention.
I am petitioning to the Department of Parks of Recreations in the hopes that these issues be addressed and resolved.
Shouldn't the world most beautiful game be played on a deserving field?
Dear Department of Parks and Recreations,
We come to you with a petition to fix the soccer field at the Nike Site in Shelton, CT. In it's current state, it is very hazardous to play on. There are several holes, craters and divets. Some of these holes expose the sprinkler heads which is extremely dangerous. There are several sections of the field which have little to no grass. The most recent attempt to fill these holes, resulted in a muddy mess. The dirt used to fill the hole was littered with sticks and rocks. The goals themselves are rusted and the nets are barely held together with 15 years of tape, velcro and zip-ties.
The surrounding area is equally as bad. The wooded area behind the goal and along the south side, are over grown. Most balls that enter, rarely come out. The fence which surrounds the field is rusted with jagged edges. The shubbery behind the east goal is also over grown. Its filled with prickers, thorns, broken tree branches and poison ivy. There or no bleachers or benches for our families, friends and fans to sit while watching the game.
We are suggesting that some improvements be made:
- New nets for the goals
- A large net be installed behind the east goal to prevent any balls from going over the fence. The net should span the length of the endline — the chainlink fence which is currently there is not effective for shots that sail, left or right of the goal.
- The shubbery behind the east goal be cleaned, cut and maintained regularly so no one is injured while trying to retrieve a ball.
- The holes be filled and sod be planted — grass seeds have proven ineffective.
- Bleachers or benches be installed for visiting families, friends and fans.
- The shubbery and wooded area on the south and west side should be cleaned and maintained to prevent lost balls and reduce the amount of injuried which are sustained when trying to retrieve a ball.
- There are trees on the south side which overhang the boundaries of the field and impede with the play. This tree should be trimmed back or possibly removed.
- The rusted fence be replaced or repaired.
We understand that this is a massive undertaking but it is long overdue. The soccer fields needs our attention more than ever.
Thank you.
