Pit bull is the common name for a type of dog. Formal breeds often considered to be of the pit bull type include the American Pit Bull Terrier, American Staffordshire Terrier, American Bully, and Staffordshire Bull Terrier. The American Bulldog is also sometimes included. Yes the breed has the build and strength of a fighting dog, but animal fighting is illegal. Whilst this breed is notoriously known as aggressive this is not true. We can already own a Staffordshire bull terrier so why not the rest? These breeds are loyal, intelligent, playful and affectionate dogs with no intention of harm if we treat them like we treat any other breed of dog, with love and kindness. American pitbull terriers have an 86% pass rate on temperament tests compared to an 85.2% pass rate for the much beloved golden retriever ( an ideal family pet) over all pit bulls are less likely to show aggression than: Beagles, Bull Dogs, Basset Hounds, Bichon Frise, Corgis, Chihuahuas, German Shepherds, Poodles, Yorkshier Terriers and so many more breeds. German shepherds, Rottweilers and dobermans have all previously been labeled aggressive yet we still love these dogs. Additionally, the RSPCA have said that there is not evidence to support that certain breeds hold an "aggressive trait" in their DNA. So why are we so afraid of these loving and amazing breeds.
