Demand an End to Useless, Noisy Sirens

Volunteer fire departments in the US come with incredibly noisy sirens. Whilst said departments argue that the siren alerts people in town that something is going wrong, this comes at an enormous cost in terms of noise pollution for both humans, pets and wildlife. There is no reason in the world that the siren should go off every day at noon and there is also no reason in the world that in the age of technology a more effective, less disturbing system couldn’t be implemented, one that would spare everybody from the shock it brings about to the wider community, human and non-human. Keeping the siren as a back up can be an option but it should not be the standard anymore, not in 2020. These sirens do not exist in Europe so why should they exist in the United States?
