Bring NOPE (Narcotics Overdose Prevention & Education) to Avon Grove School District

Prescription drug abuse and heroin use have taken a heartbreaking toll on too many impressionable teenagers and their families. This epidemic is being actively fought by law enforcement officers and community leaders working to prevent addiction and respond to it's aftermath, but we as parents need to demand more direct and up to date drug education for our middle and high school students.

As parents of Avon Grove students, we are hearing more and more about the drug use from students in our schools. Using drugs, specifically opioids, is becoming a norm and we as a community may be unaware of the severity. Opioids are a class of prescription pain medications that includes hydrocodone, oxycodone, morphine, and methadone. Heroin belongs to the same class of drugs, and four in five heroin users started out by misusing prescription opioid pain medications. With so many recent drug-related deaths and overdoses nationwide, we believe that direct and up to date drug education can help our students make good choices. We want to raise the bar of what is expected of our kids and help them to make good choices now and for their future. We as a community should share in the responsibility of raising our youth.
