Ask Forever 21 to Swear Off Photoshop!

Many fashion retailers use Photoshop to create an unrealistic, idealized image of their models, but Forever 21 is one of the worst offenders. It's one thing to smooth over a little acne or enhance color and shine, but Forever 21 goes way beyond that. Their images disregard basic anatomy, and editors have been known to warp or erase women's waists, kneecaps, ribs and other body parts to create a false standard that no woman could possibly achieve.

These photos harm impressionable girls and women, who develop a poor self-image and may even develop an eating disorder in hopes of achieving a figure like those they see in fashion shots. But in real life, even the models don't look like those images.

Progressive retailers like ModCloth are pledging to stop the secret use of Photoshop in their advertisements, and to label images that have been modified. ModCloth Chief Marketing Officer Nancy Ramamurthi told Today.com. "I do believe that women of all sizes are beautiful. So why not show that and reflect back the diversity of women in this country today?"

Beauty comes in all shapes and sizes, and girls should have the opportunity to see bodies like theirs in the media and be proud of their natural form. Please sign the petition to urge Forever 21 to stop using Photoshop!

We are concerned with your use of Photoshop to distort the natural form of your models beyond what is realistic. It's one thing to smooth over a little acne or enhance color and shine to beautify an image, but we believe your editing goes too far. Some of your images disregard basic anatomy, and your editors have been known to warp or erase women's waists, kneecaps, ribs and other body parts to create a false standard that no woman could possibly achieve.
