Honor HCSC Coverage and Reimburse FDA-Cleared Migraine Treatment!

We, the undersigned patients, caregivers, healthcare professionals, and advocates, urge Health Care Service Corporation (HCSC) to provide an adequate ancillary DME provider network for the FDA-cleared migraine treatment device, Nerivio, in accordance with your existing medical policy and applicable coverage criteria.

Migraine is a disabling neurological disease that affects every aspect of daily life, including education, employment, family responsibilities, mental health, and quality of life. Many adults and children living with chronic and episodic migraine have exhausted traditional therapies, experience medication side effects, or remain inadequately treated despite years of care.

Nerivio is an FDA-cleared medical device developed to help patients manage migraines safely and effectively. It represents an important non-pharmaceutical treatment option for patients who may not tolerate, respond to, or safely use conventional medications.

HCSC patients are unable to find an in-network ancillary DME provider willing to distribute Nerivio.  This lack of an adequate provider network prevents patients from accessing Covered Services and medically necessary care that may significantly improve functioning and reduce disability.

Patients face serious consequences, such as:

  • Increased migraine frequency and severity
  • Missed work and school and lost productivity
  • Reduced ability to care for family and children
  • Increased unplanned emergency department visits and healthcare utilization
  • Medication overuse and avoidable side effects
  • Financial hardship and inequitable access to care

We respectfully request that HCSC:

  1. Support an adequate network of ancillary DME providers that can affordably supply Nerivio
  2. Ensure transparent and consistent claims review practices
  3. Provide clear guidance to providers regarding coding and billing requirements
  4. Engage with patients, providers, and headache specialists to improve access to evidence-based migraine care

Patients living with migraine deserve access to medically appropriate, FDA-cleared treatment options without unnecessary administrative barriers.

We urge HCSC to review their ancillary DME network, work with contracted providers, establish clear policy standards, and prioritize equitable access to migraine care.

Providers and HCSC Members Listed on this Petition
