A truly alarming report says that Trump is considering using tactical nuclear weapons against Iran's underground nuclear sites, if our conventional weapons (including the frequently mentioned 30,000 pound bunker-buster bomb) are not powerful enough to destroy them. The White House will not confirm this, but Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth stoked the fires of speculation by coyly saying that "additional capabilities" have indeed been moved to the area.
It's hard to stress enough just how horrible an idea this is, and how dangerous the Pandora's Box it would open would be.
Tactical nuclear weapons may be smaller and less powerful than the strategic nuclear bombs designed to destroy cities. But they are still orders of magnitude more powerful than conventional weapons.
And most importantly, they are nuclear weapons. They cross a red line that could trigger a nuclear response against our troops, our allies, and the US itself.
There's a good reason the world has spent the better part of a century trying desperately to keep these weapons from being used again. But Trump, Hegseth, and the rest of Trump's team may honestly be too dumb or to ill-informed to understand that.
Add your name, and demand that Trump not go down this catastrophic path, and that safeguards be added by Congress, our military, or however else possible, to keep him from doing it on his own.
