The monthly jobs report from the Bureau of Labor Statistics may be the single most important piece of economic data released on a regular basis. It gives a critical look into how the economy is doing by showing how fast jobs are growing, and whether we are headed into a recession.
But Trump is refusing to allow the latest monthly report to be released, even though the data has been gathered, and all BLS needs to do is update a website.
Trump is blaming the shutdown, but there were already plans in place for releasing the data if that happened. And given how important this data is (critical for planning by companies, the Fed, and others), this is clearly essential work -- which is exempt from the shutdown.
Trump is clearly looking to hide his failures. He inherited an economy that was the envy of the industrialized world, and he has royally screwed it up. And now he wants to hide the numbers, so he can pretend all is well. To hell with that.
Tell Trump: "Release the jobs data! Stop hiding your failure!"
