Because the current plans put forth by the Town of Hempstead and Breslin Realty do not represent the best interests of the Baldwin community:
The Baldwin Civic Association is requesting the Town of Hempstead to stop all negotiations with Breslin Realty and start over with a new Request for Proposals (RFP).
The new RFP must address the following issues:
- The developer must develop the entire project site. Piecemeal development should not be allowed.
- The RFP must state that proposals should be for mixed use, smart growth, transit oriented developments.
- The developer is expected to partner with the community and local organizations to create a positive business to community relationship.
In addition, the Town should allow certain key stakeholders and representatives in the community to review all of the proposals that come in with the new RFP. These representatives should have a say in selecting the best proposal for the community. Lastly, we expect that the Town of Hempstead will do everything in their power to ensure that proper development is done at this site.
