Child-care workers are quitting en masse, leaving parents across the country with few options. It's hard to blame them - a new report describes the industry as "unworkable," with child-care workers earning an average of a meager $24,230 per year. Yet there is a potential solution for this crisis: pass the Build Back Better plan and invest in America's children and families.
Sign now to tell Senators Manchin and Sinema: do your job, pass Build Back Better and invest in America's children!
Child-care workers are the backbone of our society - they take care of our children and allow working families to seek multi-parent employment. Yet child-care employment is down more than 126,000 positions as workers seek higher paying positions in other sectors. As a result, day care and after-school programs are suffering and dwindling, leaving working families little choices as they attempt to return to work.
The consequences of this are unequal - women are more likely to leave their jobs in order to care for their children than their male counterparts.
The full Build Back Better plan is exactly what Americans need to address this crisis. The plan includes roughly $450 billion for child care. This crucial boost would help increase wages for caregivers, reduce costs of child care for low- and middle- income families, and fund universal pre-K, giving every child in America access to crucial early education.
Child-care labor is essential, and benefits all of us, and we must start acting like it. Child-care workers deserve higher pay! We must put pressure on Senators Manchin and Sinema to do the right thing and vote in favor of Build Back Better!
