We, the Undersigned, endorse the following petition:
For nearly 40 years, the National Wild and Scenic Rivers Act has helped protect hundreds of outstanding, free-flowing rivers. But many other wild rivers have yet to be designated as "Wild and Scenic," leaving them vulnerable to threats from pollution, mining, sprawl and dam construction. In honor of the National Wild and Scenic Rivers Act, American Rivers is helping citizen groups around the country in securing wild and scenic protection for 40 new rivers by the 40th anniversary of this landmark environmental law in 2008. We as citizens who love rivers demand that elected officials join this 40x40 challenge by sponsoring and supporting legislation designating new Wild and Scenic river protections.
Together, we can save America's great rivers for present and future generations.
