Many people have trouble making the connection between polar bear extinction and their own energy bills. But the best thing you can do for polar bears is to insulate your home and lower your carbon footprint. Home energy consumption is a leading cause of climate change. And climate change is why polar bears are dying.
In Louisville and Lexington, Kentucky, you can get an energy audit for $25. With that audit, you get several LED light bulbs. And, if you make substantial improvements to your home's energy efficiency, you get a rebate of up to $1000. This great program is the work of LG&E-KU, the local power company that serves hundreds of thousands of customers in western Kentucky.
But now, LG&E-KU is phasing out its home energy incentives and rebates programs. The company says it has saved enough energy for its own purposes. LG&E told the local newspaper that, "the cost of continuing to offer some of our existing programs simply outweighed the benefits to our customers."
Well, that's just not true! Many of us just learned of this program! Please join me in demanding that Louisville, Kentucky's LG&E maintain its affordable home energy use audits and energy rebates.
