Demand a Moratorium on Atrazine, a Dangerous Farm Chemical

You may never have heard of atrazine, but you should know that it is the second most widely used herbicide in the United States. Farmers use around seventy million pounds of atrazine on the corn, soy, wheat, oats, and sugar that you eat. And that would be okay if atrazine were harmless.

But it is not. The Environmental Protection Agency recently released a report that atrazine poses serious risks to human health. It threatens human growth, reproductive ability, and may even be linked to cancer. The devastation does not end there, though. This chemical is also lethal to a wide range of birds, mammals, and fish.

Please join me in asking the EPA to impose a moratorium on the production and sale of the herbicide Atrazine pending evidence that it can be used safely and under what circumstances.

Dear Environmetal Protection Agency:

Atrazine is obviously a dangerous chemical. And I think you know this, because you released the study that finds it poses health risks to both humans and wildlife. It would be one thing if this were a rarely used chemical, but it is not. It is the second most widely used herbicide in the United States. Farmers use seventy million pounds of it on crops that go directly to our tables every year. Please impose a moratorium on the production and sale of the herbicide Atrazine pending evidence that it can be used safely and under what circumstances.
