Help Protect North Carolina From Fracking!

There are many reasons why hydraulic fracturing (fracking), a controversial practice of drilling for natural gas, is bad for North Carolina. Fracking has been linked to groundwater contamination, air pollution, and controversy across the country. But even with these reports, NC lawmakers continue to push for bills that put our beautiful state on a mad rush to frack.

Most troubling is a recent proposal to allow fracking companies to keep secret the chemicals that they will inject into the ground. The January chemical spill in West Virginia that affected over 300,000 people reminds us how important it is to protect our drinking water and to know exactly what chemicals threaten our water. North Carolina public officials should be moving more cautiously and taking time for further study, especially considering that North Carolina’s unique geology might make our communities even more susceptible to groundwater contamination from the chemicals used in this drilling process.

Sign our petition and tell the Governor and our state legislators that North Carolinians don't want fracking in our state!
Dear Elected Leaders,

Drilling for shale gas and hydraulic fracturing (fracking) have contaminated drinking water sources and wells, and have caused air pollution and fractured communities in the states where they are occurring. A variety of health impacts to people and animals have been reported near shale gas development.

In North Carolina, the drinking water sources for millions, including hundreds of thousands of well users, could be at risk.

We, the undersigned, urge you to reinstate the permanent ban on fracking and horizontal drilling for shale gas in North Carolina and to continue the ban on underground toxic waste injection.

Sincerely,
