Mandate to update, revise and implement a modern Federal Poverty Level Guideline

  • av: Jaime Dough

The federal poverty level has not been revised since 1955 and does not accurately reflect the true cost of living in the United States for the majority of people nor what a living wage should be. It also establishes a minimum acceptable standard of living and expectation of standard of living for U.S. citizens. It is time to have this updated!!
Dear Mr. Leavitt:                Millions of Americans are suffering and barely able to survive. I myself have been homeless while fulyl employed, unable to pay current market rental rates nor build wealth through savings. I work for one of the largest companies in American and i do not have a home and have never owned one nor been able to marry andsupport a family. No person should HAVE to work more than 40 hours per week to meet basic needs.                 Please give American policymakers and decisionmakers and American businesses and employers a wake-up call as to the true economic condition of our citizens.By addressing the reality of the situation perhaps we can all strive to solve the poverty problem. By establishing guidelines that more accurately reflect the true conditions, millions will be eligible for assistance so they can increase upward mobility and ultimately self-reliance. The guidelines should be based solely on income which is verifiable and which status is reversed if abuses and unreported income is discovered to deter fraud. This is to help those who really need it. Economic tracking should not be implemented.
