Stop the Trump Administration's Disastrous Offshore Drilling Plan
The Trump administration has released a disastrous proposal to auction off huge swaths of America's oceans for oil and gas drilling — endangering our marine life and coastal communities with the risk of catastrophic oil spills, and threatening coastal jobs and economies.
Interior Secretary Ryan Zinke's radical five-year Outer Continental Shelf (OCS) proposal ignores science and public opinion. It would expand offshore drilling into the Atlantic, Pacific, eastern Gulf of Mexico, and Arctic, effectively handing over virtually all of our public oceans, including permanently protected areas, to Big Oil.
Zinke's proposal tears up the existing offshore leasing program put in place by President Obama — a plan that prohibits leasing in the Arctic, Atlantic, eastern Gulf of Mexico, and the Pacific, and permanently protects the vast majority of the Arctic Ocean and key parts of the Atlantic Ocean.
We need your help to raise a national outcry in defense of our oceans and our coast communities. Tell Interior Secretary Ryan Zinke to keep our coasts off-limits to oil and gas drilling.
Dear Secretary Zinke:
The American people do not want our fragile coastal waters exposed to dangerous oil and gas drilling. Yet your administration is pushing a new five-year offshore plan that would allow drill rigs to put virtually every inch of our nation's coastline at risk of devastating oil spills. It's unconscionable, and it must be stopped.
Expanding offshore drilling threatens our coastal communities, whales and other marine life with catastrophic oil spills. It blocks our path to a clean energy future and keeps us shackled to the heavily polluting fossil fuels of the past. It's nothing more than another handout to private oil companies, forcing taxpayers to continue subsidizing the fossil fuel industry.
