Help people suffering from mental health problems receive the care they need

"While I was in Dadaab, I saw dozens of people with mental health problems who'd been chained up or shut away by their families, who were at a complete loss as to how to handle them," says psychiatrist Pablo Melgar Gomez, who worked with Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) in Dadaab refugee camp in Kenya, from 2009 to 2010.

Approximately 450 million people worldwide suffer with mental health disorders, yet an enormous gap exist between those who need healthcare and those who receive any. In some cases families, resort to drastic measures like what Dr Gomez saw while in Kenya.

With decades of experience, MSF takes time to develop a thorough understanding of the people they treat and the places in which they operate. For neglected people who can't reach medical facilities, MSF take the care to them.
