Thank Obama For Lifting the HIV Travel and Immigration Ban

President Obama closed a chapter on an era of discrimination and intolerance when he officially eliminated America's ban on incoming travelers with HIV.

The HIV travel ban, first enacted when HIV was thought to be either airborne or transmittable by physical contact, marked one of the ugliest remnants of discrimination against people with HIV/AIDS.

For more than two decades, any non-citizen seeking to enter the U.S. was prohibited from doing so. This needless ban forced families apart and prevented non-citizens from seeking testing and treatment. Equally important, the ban damaged the international reputation of the U.S. as a world leader in HIV/AIDS education and treatment.

Sign the petition thanking President Obama for lifting the HIV travel ban and putting the U.S. on track to be a world leader in combating HIV/AIDS.
Dear President Obama,

For more than two decades the U.S. was one of only 13 nations in the world to ban HIV-positive travelers from entering the country. The ban, first enacted when HIV was thought to pose a significant threat through casual contact, was one of the ugliest remnants of discrimination against people with HIV/AIDS.

By officially eliminating the ban, you have helped to end this discrimination, reunite families, allow HIV positive people to seek tests and treatments and have helped put the U.S. back on track to be a world leader in combating HIV/AIDS.

Thank you for all your hard work, President Obama!
