Demand Congress support the rights of living organ donors

Giving someone a kidney is the ultimate altruistic act. Nearly 100,000 people in the United States today are waiting for a kidney transplant, and those who choose to save their lives should be protected.

But these courageous living donors are not currently eligible to take time off under the Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA), and also can face discrimination from some insurers. We need to do everything we can to encourage more kidney donations. The Living Donor Protection Act of 2017 (H.R. 1270) will:

• Clarify that living organ donors may use FMLA leave to recover from surgery
• Prohibit insurance companies from denying or limiting life, disability and long term care insurance to living donors • Prohibit insurance companies from charging higher premiums for life, disability and long term care insurance

With these protections in place, more people may make the decision to become living donors. This would increase the number of transplants in our country and provide more kidney failure patients the opportunity to live a life without dialysis.

Please sign this petition asking Congress to support H.R. 1270, the Living Donor Protection Act. Help ensure that individuals who give the gift of life are protected from discrimination and are encouraged to help those in need.
