Fire and Arrest the Police Officer who left his police dog in a hot car for over six hours - resulting in the death of the dog

Police Officer David Hurt left his police dog, Turbo, in his car on a 94 degree day for over 6 hours and the dog died two days later from organ failure. Officer Hurt was attending active shooter training and never once left to attend to Turbo, not even to let him have a bathroom break. Other officers attending the training left their dogs in their cars, but they frequently went out to check on them, but not Officer Hurt. Not only did he leave the dog in the car, but he turned off the heat alarm that could have warned him of Turbo's impending heat stroke. The heat alarm costs $800 and the training of a police dog can run anywhere from $12,000 to $15,000 so not only did the taxpayers lose this investment, but a 22 month old dog died a horrible death because of Officer Hurt's negligence. His punishment is a 5 day suspension without pay. Officer Hurt should be fired from his job, made to pay restitution for the taxpayers investment in Turbo and should be criminally prosecuted for the murder of a K9 officer.
