Tell Romney His Response to Libya was Shameful
We were all shocked to learn of the horrific murders of four U.S. diplomats in Libya. While most of us mourned the victims of this senseless tragedy, Mitt Romney used it as an opportunity to blast President Obama and threaten religious freedom to try to boost his faltering campaign.
Romney's statements were factually incorrect, inflammatory, and offensive. Romney called Obama's response "disgraceful" and lambasted the Administration for not standing up for American values. The Administration actually defended one of the cornerstones of American values: freedom of religion.
Obama said, "We reject all efforts to denigrate the religious beliefs of others..."
Secretary of State Hillary Clinton said, "This is an attack that should shock the conscience of people of all faiths..."
Instead of supporting his President, Secretary of State, and country, Romney tried to exacerbate divides and incite hatred. He should be ashamed.
Today you showed your true colors: instead of supporting the President when we learned of the murder of four U.S. diplomats in Libya, you attacked him, his administration, and religious freedom.
You have publicly claimed to strongly support religious freedom, especially because you feel discriminated against because of your religion. Once again you have made a contradictory statement. Clearly, we can't believe anything you say.
Other members of your party put politics aside to mourn the victims and stand with their President, including House Speaker John Boehner, House Majority Leader Eric Cantor and Senator Marco Rubio. Senator John McCain even praised Hillary Clinton's response.
In a time of emergency, we need a leader who will unite us, not divide us. You are clearly not that leader.
