Thank Facebook for Ditching Coal Energy!

Facebook has announced that it will move away from powering its operations and data centers with coal, and move toward clean, renewable energy.

In April 2011, Greenpeace released a report called "How Dirty is Your Data?" The report said that 53.2% of Facebook's electricity came from coal, and that just one of Facebook's U.S. data centers is estimated to use the same amount of electricity as 30,000 homes.

After an extensive campaign by Greenpeace, Facebook has announced their change. They are also building a very large data center in Sweden that is going to be powered primarily by renewable energy, and have already built a large solar array near their Oregon data center.

This is a big step for Facebook and sets a great example for large companies all over the country that are working toward sustainability. Please sign this action to say Thank You to Facebook!
