President Obama recently laid out his executive actions to expand online background checks, increase mental health care, and improve the government’s capacity to keep guns out of the wrong hands.
This plan is only a first step. We still need Congress to take action.
Congress must pass common-sense measures to reduce gun violence in the United States. Prohibiting suspected terrorists from legally purchasing firearms and requiring that background checks be conducted for people who buy guns at gun shows are just a couple of life-saving actions.
