Stop the Decimation of more farmland
Two tracts of land on both sides of State Rd where State Rd meets Harrisburg Pike, the 32 acres of farmland immediately to the west of State Rd and the 67 acres of farmland immediately to the east of State Rd are the land tracts being identified for rezoning from Agriculture to Campus. The request to rezone from Agriculture to Campus would allow for these types of facilities to be constructed, these listed are just a few allowed (Retail space, Restaurants, Residential Housing structures, Personal care homes/Shelter care homes, medical facilities) Some of the land on the east side of State Rd in addition to Campus rezoning is also being requested to rezone from Agriculture to Enterprise that allows for (Convenience stores, Gas stations and Hotels among other structures)
Centerville Rd, Harrisburg Pike, Rohrerstown Rd, Columbia Ave, almost any major thoroughfare in East Hempfield have major traffic issues. There are so many retail and other business spaces sitting empty all around us such as two Flagship stores at Park City, empty storefronts at Rockvale not to mention Toys R Us and Baby's R Us. Our quality of life is being compromised by irreparable damage to our land resulting in extended time spent sitting in traffic, loss of arable land and additional pollutants in our already compromised air quality. After more than 2 hours of impassioned pleas from the residents; the rezoning was approved by the supervisors. The only takeaway from this situation is the importance of voting in every local election regardless of how inconsequential it may seem. These are the elections that will affect our day to day life. Buy local whenever possible regardless of the inconvenience or couple of extra dollars. It's our only hope to preserve our scant few farms and our quality of life.
