Bird Flu Public Health Education Materials For All Americans
H5N1 Avian (bird flu) Influenza is not a priority disease or illness, at this time. However it is emerging as global threat. For if the virus continues to evolve into a mutated strain that we humans have little or no immunity to, than it will have a large scale global impact. In the United States alone, an estimated 90 million citizens will become ill, with 1.9 million dying without medical intervention. Unfortunately children, young adults, and pregnant women are at a greater risk for both contracting and becoming fatalities from H5N1 Avian (bird flu) Influenza.

The United States Surgeon General is Americas chief health educator. He must provide leadership and assure the health literacy of Americans, especially under-served persons about H5N1 Avian (bird flu) Influenza prevention and preparedness in plain written languages that people of all ages, races, incomes and education levels can understand. Even if it means following an example set by the nation of New Zealand, who will be mass mailing bird flu prevention education materials to some 1.4 million households nationwide beginning on March 20, 2006.
We the undersigned citizens of the United States of America, do petition Vice Admiral Richard H. Camona, M.D., M.P.H., F.A.C.S., United States Surgeon General to promote health literacy by developing and distributing information written in languages that people of all ages, races, incomes, and education levels can understand about H5N1 Avian (bird flu) Influenza prevention and preparedness.
