Stand up for cancer research funding!

Congress recently passed a debt ceiling deal that could potentially result in harmful cuts to crucial cancer research programs. We cannot afford to let this happen.
Federal funding for cancer research is vital for saving lives and making progress in understanding, preventing, and treating this deadly disease. Every major cancer-fighting breakthrough in the past 50 years is thanks, at least in part, to federal funding for cancer research. However, the budget caps resulting from the debt ceiling deal threaten progress in cancer research. Cuts to funding could hinder vital studies, delay breakthroughs, and potentially deny patients access to cutting-edge treatments.
We can't afford to lose or slow progress in the fight against cancer. Lives are on the line.
Please join us in calling on Congress to:
1. Prioritize cancer research funding & prevention programs: Recognize cancer research as a national priority and ensure funding remains intact and protected from potential cuts.
2. Advocate for increased funding: Secure additional resources to accelerate progress and help end cancer as we know it, for everyone.
3. Foster bipartisan cooperation: Transcend political barriers and work collaboratively with representatives from all parties to safeguard the health and well-being of the American people.
You can make a lasting impact on the lives of millions of cancer patients and their families.
Take action now to stand up for cancer research funding and ensure that budget caps do not turn into cuts that hinder lifesaving breakthroughs!
Dear [lawmaker],
As a constituent, I urge you to oppose cuts and advocate for increase to vital funding for cancer research and prevention programs in the FY2024 appropriations bills.
While the recent debt ceiling deal averted draconian spending cuts, I'm concerned about the implications of discretionary budget caps on sustained funding for cancer research and the country's future progress in fighting the disease. Over the last 50 years, sustained and steadily increasing funding for cancer research has been critical to fueling progress in research that has led to improved screenings, innovative treatments and bringing us ever closer to cancer cures.
We can't afford to lose or slow progress in the fight against cancer; lives are on the line.
Please oppose any proposed cuts to cancer research and prevention programs in the FY24 appropriations bills, and prioritize robust cancer research funding, including $51 billion at the National Institutes of Health, $9.9 billion at the National Cancer Institute, and $472 million for cancer prevention and control programs.
Sincerely,
[your name]
