The Time to Ban Paraquat is Now

Parkinson's disease (PD) is the fastest-growing neurological condition in the United States, with more than 90,000 people diagnosed each year. Genetics accounts for only about 30 percent of PD risk, meaning environmental factors play a significant role in the disease's development.

Paraquat, a widely used herbicide, has been linked to an increased risk of PD. Research shows that people who spray paraquat are more than twice as likely to develop PD as those who use other pesticides. Those who live or work near areas where paraquat is applied also face an elevated risk.

Despite being banned in more than 70 countries—including across the European Union—paraquat is still used in the United States. While the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) classifies it as a restricted-use pesticide, limiting application to licensed professionals, concerns about accidental exposure and long-term health effects have persisted for decades.

It's time for the U.S. to do more to protect public health. Sign the petition to help end the use of paraquat and reduce the risk of Parkinson's disease. Add your name to our petition to call on the EPA to ban paraquat.
