Help STOP harmful bills that could hurt hardworking New Jerseyans

Right now, New Jersey lawmakers are considering a series of bills (S467, S471, S481, S2254, and S2841) that would force New Jersey drivers to purchase more auto insurance coverage, eliminate savings options and increase insurance costs for consumers.

The changes in these bills would require you to purchase more insurance than you can afford and remove several opportunities to help you save on your personal and commercial auto policy. With New Jersey consumers already having to contend with record inflation and soaring gas prices, now is the worst possible time to make changes that could lead to higher costs for consumers.

Call on your legislators to oppose these harmful bills!
As a constituent, I'm writing today to ask you to oppose misguided legislation that could lead to higher insurance costs for New Jersey consumers and businesses alike. Please vote NO on S467, S471, S481, S2254, and S2841.

Among other things, these bills would massively increase the minimum liability, uninsured motorist, and underinsured motorist coverage that New Jersey drivers are forced to carry, leading to a potential premium increase of up to $300 per year for the more than 1 million drivers who purchase minimum coverage today. They would also eliminate certain personal injury protection (PIP) insurance options for consumers and require $250,000 of medical expense benefits under standard and basic automobile insurance policies, which could cost more than 2 million drivers more than $350 per year. Additionally, they would eliminate a discount that 1.27 million New Jersey drivers currently receive for opting to utilize their health insurance rather than their auto insurance to provide medical coverage after an accident. This discount saves the average driver as much as $240 per year.

There's never a good time to raise auto insurance rates, but now is one of the worst possible times imaginable. I have already been through so much over the past two years with the pandemic and the resulting economic uncertainty. Now, with record-high gas prices and inflation soaring, the last thing lawmakers should be doing is passing legislation that is going to make things worse for me and other New Jerseyans by increasing auto insurance costs.

Please help protect New Jersey consumers. Oppose S467, S471, S481, S2254, and S2841.

Sincerely,

[your name]
