Theresa May: Make ending child homelessness a priority this Christmas

  • by: Shelter

Working for Shelter I see so many heart-breaking stories. But seeing children and families without a place to call home at Christmas makes me especially sad.

When I met Sarah she was close to breaking point. I could see how desperately she wanted to provide a home for her kids, but they were forced to live in cold and cramped temporary accommodation.

She told me how devastated she had been when she learnt they would have to spend Christmas there. I was determined they wouldn't have to spend another Christmas in the same way.

So I took up Sarah's cause – fighting for a better home for her and her kids. I wrote emails and made endless phone calls, putting pressure on Sarah's local council to find her suitable accommodation.

Thankfully my perseverance paid off.

Sarah and her family will have somewhere to call home this Christmas. But 120,000 children in Britain will wake up homeless on Christmas morning. Join me in calling on the Prime Minister to make ending child homelessness a priority.
