GoFundMe, Don't Let Hate Mongers Raise Money on Your Platform!

On the evening of March 18th, 2018, Stephon Clark, a 22-year-old father of two was gunned down in his own backyard when police officers mistook his cellphone for a weapon. Stephon was shot at 20 times by officials — eight of the shots struck his body, seven of which were in his back.

When Nurse Faith Linthicum at Kaiser Permanente heard the news she didn't feel sorry, she didn't feel empathy. She felt vindicated. For reasons unknown she decided to share her opinion of the tragedy in a Facebook post, suggesting that Stephon Clark had it coming.  Faith thought that an unarmed man "deserved" to be gunned down by trigger-happy officers.

You might think it was odd that a nurse — someone dedicated to saving lives — would wish death on anyone. So did Ms. Linthicum's employer. When officials learned of her hateful Facebook screed, Linthicum was scrubbed from the hospital's roster.

Yet, it wasn't all bad news for her. According to news sources, this anti-nurse has actually made money off her disgusting statements — $20,000 at last count. Like other controversial characters, Faith turned to GoFundMe to whine about what she feels was an unjust firing and beg the public for money.

GoFundMe has a history of being used by bigots and cowards who have been in the wrong and then resorted to the platform to lick their wounds. After Darren Wilson shot Michael Brown down in cold blood, he subsequently raised nearly half a million dollars on the website — not a bad chunk of change for murder.

By allowing people like Ms. Linthicum to fundraise off hate and ignorance, GoFundMe is tacitly condoning her speech.Do they really want to be the company that allows this kind of ideas to not only foster but make money?

Please sign this petition asking GoFundMe to take a stand and remove Faith's campaign from their site. No one should make money off hate.
