Enforce Zambian Labor Laws in Chinese-Owned Mines!

Chinese-owned mining companies in Zambia are forcing workers to work under extremely harsh, illegal conditions. The miners do not even have sufficient equipment to do their jobs safely, often leading to accidents.

To make matters worse, if miners complain, they are promptly fired. Many union organizers and members have stopped protesting conditions for fear of harassment by company officials. These companies don't workers as people but as tools. If a worker gets injured or even dies on the job, officials remind them that they, like a tool, can easily be replaced.

Since taking over presidency of Zambia, President Michael Sata has softened his views on China in anticipation of billions of dollars of Chinese investment. Do not let President Sata forget about the workers in his own country. Tell Embassy of Zambia to urge President Michael Sata to enforce proper labor laws at Chinese-owned mines in Zambia!
Dear H.E. Ambassador Mrs. Sheila Siwela ,

Miners who work in Chinese-owned mines are in serious danger. They are forced to work in harmful conditions that could easily result in injury or even death. These conditions violate current Zambian labor laws.

Chinese company officials have instilled fear into the hearts of Zambian workers. Workers are scared to speak out against harsh conditions because they will loose their jobs. Union organizers and members no longer protest conditions for fear of harassment by Chinese officials.

These workers deserve to work in a place that honors Zambian labor laws and values their safety. I urge you to tell President Michael Sata to enforce Zambian labor laws in Chinese-owned mining companies.
