Tell the New York Mets: Drop Stop & Shop Partnership

The New York Mets have partnered with Stop & Shop, a grocery chain that broke its promise to end one of the worst forms of animal abuse.

Nearly a decade ago, Stop & Shop (owned by Ahold Delhaize) made a public, voluntary pledge to go 100% cage-free by 2025. This wasn't a vague aspiration—it was a commitment made because people like you demanded better. But in late 2024, the company quietly pushed its deadline back seven more years, keeping millions of hens trapped in cramped, filthy cages.

This is about more than animal suffering—though that alone is reason enough to act. It's about honoring public commitments and respecting the trust of the people who shop at Stop & Shop every day. When companies break their word, it's not just animals who pay the price—consumers do, too. When promises are broken, trust is lost.

Hens in battery cages are denied everything natural and joyful to them—forced to live their entire lives in overcrowded, unsanitary conditions, unable to stretch their wings, perch, or dust bathe. The eggs they lay are often dirty, smeared with blood and feces, a direct result of their cramped and filthy environment. These are sentient beings. They're capable of suffering and deserve basic decency. If a company can so easily turn its back on them, what does that say about how it treats its customers?

Now, the New York Mets are teaming up with Stop & Shop and have named it their official grocery store.

By signing this petition, you're asking the Mets to stand up for integrity and accountability. Urge the Mets to:

  • Reconsider their partnership with Stop & Shop
  • Use their influence to urge Stop & Shop to honor its original 2025 cage-free pledge
  • Uphold the Mets' values of integrity and accountability

Thank you for speaking up! Please share this petition and help hold both the Mets and Stop & Shop accountable—to animals, and to all of us who believe promises should be kept.

Dear Mr. Mallette,

We are writing to raise serious concerns about the Mets' partnership with Stop & Shop. Stop & Shop recently delayed its nearly decade-old commitment to go 100% cage-free by seven years, leaving millions of animals to suffer horrific cruelty.

Partnering with a company with such a record risks damaging the Mets' reputation with your own fans, and the general public, who care about ethical business practices and animal welfare.

We strongly urge you to reconsider this partnership and use your influence to push Stop & Shop to fulfill its promise.

Thank you for your time.
